THE DONNIE WOODS FIELD

This field on school property was the home of the very first Little League baseball games played in Southaven in the 1960s.  During this time, it received its special name for a special young man who played here and was a student at Southaven Elementary School.  Since then, this field has been used by countless youth sports teams.  In its heyday during the 1970s and 1980s, summer days here would attract kids playing the popular game of “left-field ball” and summer nights would see this field transition into the mecca for church softball league games.  The days of the past may have faded, but the memories made here never will.
