About the IT Department

Southaven's Information Technology (IT) Department was created during the FY 2002 budget process to account for the City’s computer assets, including software, hardware, and networking infrastructure. Before FY 2002, the computer maintenance and support was all out-sourced.

This Department consists of the following:
  • IT Director 
  • IT Administrator 
  • Project Manager
  • 3 IT Support Technicians
  • Administrative Assistant 

Departmental Responsibilities

The City of Southaven’s Information Technology departmental responsibilities include:
  • Administering City-wide network and servers
  • Administering backup, security, and recovery procedures on all Windows and Linux servers
  • Monitoring of systems via network management tool
  • Serving as front-line interface to users, accepting and resolving trouble reports
  • Producing and maintaining documentation on all systems-related procedures
  • Maintaining of hardware and software
  • Configuring, testing, installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining new and existing hardware, software, and communication equipment
  • Maintaining all security patches and hotfixes on all desktop computers and laptops
  • Maintaining inventory of hardware and software products ensuring compliance with software licensing agreements
  • Conducting software upgrades and patches as required
  • Evaluating new hardware and software
  • Remaining ahead of the latest technologies
  • Providing input and recommendations to the Mayor and Board of Aldermen regarding the direction of the IT Department and the City
